The Fluval FX5 filter helps in filtering these microscopic impurities with ease. This filter is a multistage filter which can filter a high volume of water without any problems. Moreover, unlike the other multistage filters, these aquarium filters are quite easy to install and maintain.
The FX5 is a three in one filter that has the capacity and strength to filter several types of impurities including mechanical, chemical and biological–the basics of an ideal aquarium filter. Additionally, other unsavory conditions such as high ammonia content and other chemical combinations, that can create a hostile and toxic waste environment for your fish, are eliminated with the FX5 filter. It is the perfect aquarium filtration system.
Capable of Just About Anything
As far as their design and structure is concerned these canister filters are quite compact and this helps them fit into most aquariums easily. Ensuring an out put which is not just powerful but also utilizes the energy efficiently and economically, its hi tech electronic circuit board monitors and maintains the performance of the filter. These aquarium filtration systems are so convenient due to the fact that all you need to do is set it up and get it started. There is no requirement for any kind of manual siphoning unlike the other filters.
Other Interesting Facts
The FX5 comes with twin out put nozzles which help in circulating and filtering the entire water in the aquarium. This filter also has a valve drain which allows it to get rid of all the waste without opening the lid of the filter or moving the unit. The rim connector helps in holding the pipes and the entire equipment in place. These filters also come with three year warranty and guarantee which means that you don’t need to spend money on buying any additional guarantees or warranties. FX5 aquarium canister filters come with all the features that an aquarium owner would want in a filter. Review of a Premium Quality Aquarium Filter
If you are looking for a better filtration system for your home aquarium, then the Fluval 405 aquarium filter gives you excellent filtration for an aquarium holding up to 400 liters, or 100 gallons. External multi-stage filtration makes the system easy to clean and maintain, which is why the Fluval is so popular among many home aquarium owners. Fluval has put a lot of effort into designing all of their filtration systems into optimizing maintenance, use of space, and filtration power just so you can get everything you need.
The Features
Amazing qualities, such as instant priming and Aqua stop features that enable you to stop the water flow without disconnecting the hoses, provide the users a quick and trouble free maintenance for their filter. There is no need for manual siphoning due to its self-priming function which prevents leaks and other messes when your 405 is being cleaned and maintained. As the chemical and biological media are kept in different compartments, you can easily replace one without having to take out both at the same time, only if needed.
Professionally Approved
UL approved with a 3 year guarantee, this aquarium filtration system works off 120 volt household current at 60 Hz and filters 225 gallons per hour while using just 22 watts. Keeping the cover secure for safe and consistent operation is the lift-lock clamp. When it is time to clean the filter, this lid is easy to open and lift off although it is tightly fitted. This filtration system is easy to set up in a matter of seconds straight from the box and includes an updated intake strainer, pre-packed media and a number of pre-assembled parts.
Value and Convenience
The filter size is 8.75″ X 6″ X 16.75″, making it small enough to fit into many spaces easily, yet it is designed to use the entire canister space so water flow is increased for optimal filtration and better efficiency than other canister aquarium filters. The smooth and quiet operation makes your home aquarium a relaxing distraction, instead of a noisy one. These filters usually run a little over a couple hundred dollars and come with four-baskets for media, bags of carbon, biological media and suction cups. You also get two foam blocks, the tubing for intake and outlet, along with a paper manual for instructions and an instructional DVD. The 405 is the middle of the line of aquarium filters in the new breed of Fluval filtration systems-they make some smaller less expensive models and a larger more expensive model, the Fluval FX-5.
Conclusion
Most aquarium owners will agree that cleaning the filtration system is a chore they dread and keeping their aquarium clean with canister filters that have enough power can be a problem for some. With the 405, the main complaints of aquarium ownership has been addressed since the water flow is optimized for better filtering and cleaning is one of the best features of the Fluval 405 filters. They are affordable, easy to use out of the box and easy to operate, clean and maintain. When you are looking at aquarium filtration systems for your home aquarium, this is one you should consider.

Choosing an Aquarium: The most Crucial Things that Should be Considered
Aquariums are known to give people a perfect opportunity to beautify their houses or offices with fish. There are several varieties of aquariums available but this mainly depends on the size and shape. The styles of aquariums are also known to largely depend on materials that are used during their production. For example, types of aquariums available can either be glass or acrylic. Since there are so many aquariums that are being sold, it is a hard task to decide on a perfect one. The following are a few factors that an individual should consider when purchasing aquariums.
Aquarium Location
The first consideration that needs to be taken into account before buying an aquarium is where the aquarium will be placed. Take into account what the weight of the aquarium will be when it is filled with water. Ensure that the stand or table where it will be placed is strong enough to support it. It is also important for the aquarium to be placed in an area that is not exposed to direct sunlight. Consider also the room’s dcor; if the surrounding dcor will be able to complement the aquarium’s presence.
The Size of the Aquarium
Once the perfect location has been identified, the next step is to choose the appropriate size of the aquarium. The aquarium size will depend on the number of fish the individual intends to have. To be able to obtain the size of the aquarium, measure the location where the tank will be placed. The larger the fish aquarium the easier the maintenance will be. It will also be much easier for the person to maintain the correct water balance for the large aquarium than with smaller aquariums. Large aquariums also prevent the fish from overcrowding. Lastly, the size bought will depend on the finances available.
Aquarium’s Shape
The most common types of tanks are rectangular, though one is able to find other aquarium shapes such as cylindrical, hexagon or round aquariums. When deciding on the shape, choose tanks that have a large surface area since oxygen enters the tank through the surface. When choosing the tank buy long tanks instead of tall ones to enable the fish move easily in the tanks.
Aquarium Material
The material used to make an aquarium is another very important consideration. Many aquariums are mostly made from glass or acrylic. Aquariums made from acrylic are not very heavy as compared to the ones made from glass tanks. The advantages of having an acrylic fish tank is that it offers an ability to view the fish images very clearly without distortions as compared to the glass tanks. However, glass tanks also have their advantages; these tanks can be cleaned easily because they are not scratched easily. On the other hand, acrylic tanks are hard to clean since they scratch easily.

Treatment of Goldfish Ulcer
Goldfish owners may find out that their fish suffers from ulcers and thus have to find effective ways of treating them. On spotting the ulcer, the goldfish ought to receive immediate treatment to prevent the ulcers from spreading. It is important to figure out what is causing the ulcer prior to beginning treatment. In addition, ensure that all fish coming into the fish tank are quarantined.
Once the cause has been found the treatment for the goldfish already infected can be undertaken. There are several ways through which the ulcers can be treated. One way is by using potassium permanganate in small portions. This is especially ideal for people with prior experience in treating the ulcers.
The ulcers can also be treated using Melafix. This medication ensures the quick healing and restoration of the fish back to health. The medication is put in the water in the tank or pond, for every 50 gallons of water one teaspoon is put. If the damages caused by the ulcers are grave then double dosage can be used. Once the process of treating the ulcers has begun the carbon content within the tank should be lowered.
The other way of treating the ulcers is by feeding the goldfish using Debride medicated food. The medicated food as well as Debride medicated ointment can be used to treat bacterial infections that accompany the ulcer. The medicated food is given to the fish for 14 days along with applying the medicated ointment on the goldfish ulcer during the treatment period. The fish will significantly heal after the two weeks.
The use of Kutsuri wound kit is another method of treating the ulcer. When using the wound kit, ensure the fish is asleep, and then sterilize it using the solution provided with the kit. This is done to clean the wound. During the treatment, medicated powder should be applied onto the area that is affected. Since the powder is likely to be washed by water, a soft application of a solution of red iodine will prevent this from happening. In addition to the solution, use a water sealer.
The fish can also be injected with antibiotics. A hospital tank can be used in the treatment of the gold fish and the fish monitored daily over a period of two weeks. As a preventive measure where one does not have the hospital tank, the whole pond or tank can be treated with the antibiotics to ensure that other fish in the tank do not get infected with the bacteria.

In their natural surroundings, it is common for fish to eat only when they are hungry. Whenever there is an abundance of food, fish eat much food however, when there is not much food they can go for several days without eating. This trend has made fish to become opportunistic in that whenever they get much food they make sure they have eaten to their full.
Food given to fish usually depends on their nature, whether they are omnivorous, carnivorous or herbivorous. Before you get the fish, it is wise to find out seek information regarding their type from the supplier.
In case the fish look like a catfish, then most probably they are in the fresh water category and this means that their choice of food entails algae pellets, wafers and fish flakes. Saltwater fish favor veggie clips and sea weed because of their herbivorous nature and therefore these will have to be bought and put inside the tank. Some plankton and emerald entry form can be used to supplement the diet which is herbivorous.
Carnivorous fish species require different types of meat which should be chopped up into small pieces. This includes chopped fish, shrimp and clams. Frozen food can also be given to the carnivorous fish such as mysis and brine shrimp. All of these foods can be purchased from various pet stores.
Immature fish such as guppies or mollies need food for baby fish which can be bought from pet stores as well. The food is tiny enough and fits just right into the minute fish’s mouths. In the event that the fish are given flakes, some crushing will have to be done for the size to be right.
Goldfish have their specific diet that includes high quality pellets or flakes and veggie diet like duckweed, zucchini, water lettuce, romaine lettuce cucumber green peas, shrimp pellets and bloodworms. Tropical fish should not be housed in the same aquarium as goldfish.
A reason for this is they have different kinds of diet which do not complement the different nutritional needs they have. Gold fish are also known to release ammonia in high amounts which tropical fish cannot handle. To establish the amount of food to be eaten by the fish try and find out the amount they can handle within five minutes and this will give you the needed amount.
There is no set frequency for the feeding of the fish but they may be fed up to five times a day. It is important to note that it is not just the amount but also the quality of food that matters for fish.
